Introducing the new CXDev Toolbox

Date: 2017-01-31

I’m pleased to announce the release of the new CXDev Toolbox 2.0 for general availability. This release represents a commitment to the toolbox platform and a first step towards greater functionality and utility. The key features of the CXDev Toolbox 2.0 are:

  • Pro subscription offering access to a library of additional tools
    • New ‘Object Cleaner’ tool* for removing large amounts of data from both Custom Object and Standard Objects.
    • New ‘Profile Migrator’ tool* to quickly move Staff Accounts from one profile to another
  • Stability fixes and improvements to the core toolbox
  • Rewritten Account Importer tool

* Tool is available via the Pro subscription or may be purchased individually.

Release Information

The CXDev Toolbox was launched 3 years ago as a free collection of 3 tools; the ROQL Query Tester, Staff Account Importer, and the PHP Stub Generator. The first version was a derivative of our consulting efforts at 45 North Solutions; we used these tools extensively during client engagements and decided to share them with the world. Since the initial release, we put out one additional plugin (Account Unlock) and have made only a few critical bug fixes.

Over the last 3 years the toolbox had been rewarded with an admirable following. We have at least 500 regular users from all over the world; from individual administrators of organizations using OSvC, to consultants at major system integrators, to individuals inside of Oracle itself. These numbers were enough to convince us that the Toolbox has value and is worthy of further investment.

CXDev Toolbox 2.0 is the first step down this path. The platform is now owned and developed by 111 West Software, a sister organization to 45 North Solutions. (Interesting factoid: Bozeman, Montana, where RightNow was founded, sits at approximately 111 degrees West and 45 degrees North on the global coordinates system). The toolbox and the 4 original plugins will remain free and benefit from additional focus on the core toolbox’s features and usability. We will refer to the free version as CXDev Toolbox Basic.

For those looking for more functionality, there is a “Pro” subscription service that gives access to a growing library of additional tools. Available today are the “Profile Migrator” tool and the “Object Cleaner” tool. Additional tools will be released on a regular basis. The subscription is geared towards individual developers, configurators and administrators (like ourselves) and is priced at $15/month or $150/year. For a limited time, we are also offering a lifetime membership for $750 dollars. If you have a large organization where many people use the Toolbox, we have volume licensing prices available. For those not looking for a commitment, most plugins may be purchased for a one-time a-la-carte fee.

The new tools will be from an internal collection of tools we use for our own projects, or from your suggestions. Please provide some feedback via the following survey so that we can direct our efforts towards Pro tools that our users want and need.

In a more general sense, this is also the launch of the CXDeveloper Store. Besides the Toolbox, the store will contain other free and paid AddIns, components, solutions and utilities focused on the Oracle Service Cloud platform. Keep an eye out for additional products that will be available in the coming months.

Feature Details

Pro Subscription

The Pro Subscription gives users access to a growing library of tools; new tools will be released on a regular basis. Information on the Pro subscription can be found at the CXDev Toolbox storefront at

Rewritten Account Importer Tool

The Account Importer Tool has been completely rewritten to take advantage of the modern WPF UI framework. While we were in there, we fixed a couple of bugs related to default country.

Profile Migrator Tool

Using this tool, you can quickly move some or all users from one Account profile to another via a single click. This tool is especially useful if you are developing a new set of agent functionality (workspaces, nav set, permissions, etc) and need to perform a cutover of agents from the old profile to the new profile. Without the tool, this is done on a one-by-one basis through the Account Workspace. With the Staff Account Profile Migrator tool, this can now be done with a single click.

Object Cleaner Tool

Deleting data in Service Cloud is hard; this new tool makes it as simple as writing a ROQL query and hitting PURGE. You can choose to either delete all data returned by the ROQL query’s first run (limited to 20,000 records by the SOAP API), or to keep running the query and deleting records until all matching data is removed. The tool works with both Standard OSvC objects such as Contact, Incident, Answer and Organization, or with your own Custom Objects. Use any valid ROQL syntax to precisely identify which records you want to purge. For example, use date ranges or check for certain custom field values.

Stability Fixes and Improvements

  • BUG: If one plugin fails to load, the other plugins won’t be affected
  • BUG: Traffic logging UI got overwhelmed by too many threads, rewrote in WPF
  • ENHANCEMENT: Binpress license validation for 1st and 3rd party developers
  • ENHANCEMENT: Load plugins directly from ZIP files
  • ENHANCEMENT: Specify which directory plugins should be loaded from (accessible from the Plugin Manager UI)
  • ENHANCEMENT: Tracking screen resolutions, a WPF rewrite will be required to handle 4k displays, this helps determine how much of a priority that is
  • ENHANCEMENT: .NET async/await handlers for SOAP service, enable more responsive UI designs

Coming Soon

You will soon be able to write your own tools and plugins for the CXDev Toolbox using the Toolbox Plugin API and quickly write programs that manipulate Oracle Service Cloud data using the same skills needed to write an Agent Desktop AddIn.
